Shell Club15 Virtual Christmas Party – December 12, 2020 at 2pm

Hello there friends!

For the first time, our Christmas party will be worldwide. Our colleagues who are residing abroad will join us! It is also the first time that our retirees in Visayas and Mindanao will join us. Wow-wowee! We are all excited. Just a gentle reminder – please ensure you use your registered name in your laptops, cellphones, iPads, etc. for proper identification.

Since it will be hard to give prizes to those based abroad, only members residing in the Philippines are eligible for raffle and contest prizes.. Shell Club15 Trustees and The Secretariat are not allowed to participate in any contest but are eligible for raffle prizes. Virtual presence is required.

Raffle – Only registered participants will be included in the raffle. This will be a system-drawn raffle.

Contests: To allow our judges to deliberate on the contest winners, please ensure entries are submitted to your Group Coordinators – Annie Padlan, Flor Soriano and Ruby Ferniz. Likewise, contestants for the Tongue Twister Contest should register with their Group Coordinators.

Our emcees are the Pogi Braders – Atty. Rubin Cura and Vic Pascual. They will again charm us with their funny quips and beautiful singing voices. Walang kupas talaga!

The link will be sent to registered attendees by December 10, 2020.

Don’t forget – December 12, 2020 at 2pm.

Shell Club15 Plus Through The Years- Message From Terry Valladores

Dear Shell Club15 Plus members,

Shell Club15 is coming to its almost two decades of existence. The foundation and strength of the Club was built on camaraderie, fellowship and caring for people. Our retirees were given a venue within which they reconnect with friends and colleagues. Shell management has been steadfast in supporting the activities of the Club. And our retirees could not have been prouder.

The Club has grown from strength to strength. The countless activities we had were proof of the unmitigating partnership between the company and our members.

As part of the effort to provide support to retirees who were in difficult condition, the Club has established the Good Samaritan Fund (GSF). It provided relief to our retirees in need beset with some financial and health problems. In no uncertain terms, GSF was an expression of care and empathy for the least of our brethren facing difficulties in life. Those who have received of such an assistance could not thank Shell and the Club enough that the recipients would literally shed tears in expressing their gratitude. It is moving; and proves that under any circumstances, especially during difficult times, Shell management thru the Club cares for the retirees.

The facility of the GSF is an original version and viable program conceptualized by the Club. Such cannot be found and has not been duplicated by any retirees’ organizations in the local corporate world. Several Shell operating companies have expressed interest to emulate the program.

In the present circumstances and restrictions brought about by the pandemic crisis, the fellowship and mass gatherings in the past cannot at this time be held. Given the age and fragility of our retirees, it would be unwise and unsafe to pursue similar activities. Some programs are being studied and will possibly be pursued using the facility of the internet connection. Health is primordially important that certain programs will be launched guided and within the parameters set by the Health and Safety guidelines of Shell. When done, the interest of the members and retirees remain top-of-the-mind consideration. Nonetheless, the pandemic crisis will eventually end, and the Club will continue with its programs under the so-called “new normal”.

Health is wealth, and the welfare of our members is certainly the backbone of the Club’s programs.

Chairman Emeritus

Message From Sam De Guzman

Dear Beloved Members,

I wish you and your families are safe and healthy in the midst of the present crisis. The threat of covid infection and its consequences have brought us great distress in our personal lives. The fight against the virus remains until both the cure and the vaccine are finally delivered. Even as we now gradually transition to a general quarantine situation, it is clear that the world as we know it has drastically changed. The challenges of this “new normal”, or the new ways of conducting our everyday lives are real. Now more than ever, it is important that we support each other as one community.

Your Board of Trustees (BoT) promptly adjusted despite the early restrictions by conducting the Annual General Meeting via a virtual online gathering last Mar 17. This was followed by another BoT meeting online on May 21. It was a welcome sight to see and hear all your fellow Trustees after two months of home confinement! Despite the initial fumbling with technology, our hunger and excitement to connect once again actually paved the way towards productive discussions. We focused on how we can bring alive within this new normal the themes of devolution, volunteerism and benefits that shape our 2020 Plans.

On the outset, your BoT is reallocating the Club’s resources away from activities planned under mass gatherings to events that foster well-being while observing social distancing protocols. The Good Samaritan Fund (GSF) remains available to help members who are in dire need, and is further strengthened to assist potentially covid-afflicted members – hopefully, a provision that will not be utilized. This year’s voluntary flu vaccination for SC15 members will ride onto SCiP’s program this Q3. How to deliver the flu vaccine safely to Club members who may want it is the challenge that we will figure out.

In an era when we are physically apart and less mobile, it does not mean we are isolated or alone. We can continue to connect and share with one another enabled by technology and social media. The Club now encourages its members to organize local area councils (LAC) clustered around the old Shell worksites, such as Pandacan, NCR, Tabangao, Pililla, Cebu and Davao. A Trustee-Advisor within these locations will help you setup and support the nominated Coordinator and the LAC. Trustees Yolly Alcaraz and Brandy Brandares helped organize the Viber chat groups for Tabangao and Pililla LACs, respectively. You may contact your Trustee-Advisors in the other locations: Janot Baretto-Pandacan, Ferdie Vazquez-NCR, Ven Lacustales-Cebu, and Boy Lacno-Davao.

Through the LAC, we foresee more active participation and grassroots empowerment from among the local communities. You can tailor your gatherings and activities that are fit-for-purpose and meaningful, making it more conducive to bonding and rekindling friendships.

And now, there’s a host of various online and social media channels available to enable a vibrant LAC congregation – Viber Group chat, Zoom meeting, FB Messenger room, FaceTime, and the like. The activities you can pursue are limited only by your own imagination. It could range from an “e-Kapihan”, a mundane morning/afternoon online dialogue, or to a Chat discussion on how to deliver the flu vaccine safely and efficiently within your area.

Let us stay informed and engaged with each other in these trying times. The prevailing threat of the virus still out there cannot discourage us to retreat into isolation and loneliness. We will overcome this trial together by reaching out and touching someone.

Stay Safe. Be Healthy. Stay Connected.

Message From Baste Quiniones

Hello members of Shell Club15Plus!

We hope you are all coping well in this Covid pandemic situation. As you will read in the message fromour President, the club has adjusted to a “new normal” where IT solutions is now mandatory. I have been able to synergize a bit with Pilipinas Shell Foundation and PSFI will provide old laptops to the Secretariat and assist on the systems needed to enable them to use the machines for your benefit. We had in fact one last ZOOM meeting with Tita Nits before she was hospitalized and yes, she was able to get on-line on ZOOM! I am so glad we were able to interact with her before she went to the Lord!

As we cannot have mass gatherings, the Local Area Coordinator concept has been put forward as an alternative. The Secretariat will still be around to ensure back-room support. I personally am hoping you all can participate locally in your own areas support each other. Wherever we can, the Board will study how resources can be shared.

By the way, watch the space on activities we can also do virtually! We shall be getting ZOOM or an equivalent where we can “meet” as an organization and do things together. The list of possible activities will be deliberated soon by the Board. Try to get Gcash or Paymaya too! It will be easier to send prize money!

The road ahead is very uncertain, and we will need to adapt accordingly. Your Board and Secretariat will increase connectivity via the Internet to all members but remember that this is a dialogue. You also need to respond and have the right hardware (minimum is a smart phone) and learn how to log-in to whatever tool we will get. You can always call on the Secretariat or a Trustee for coaching.

Please expect a revitalized Web Page, check out Facebook and our Yahoogroups. You need to be connected to us and to each other.

The Lord gave an opportunity for all of us in this time of trial to learn new things. He is control and will deliver us eventually. We just need to have faith and keep our hope on His great plan for us as an organization.

May you all be blessed with good health and sound minds!

Kayang-kaya kung sama-sama!

Message From Sam De Guzman

Beloved SC15+ Members,

This confirms that our Annual General Meeting will proceed on Tue Mar 17 10:00am at TFC, BGC Taguig City.

However, in view of the prevailing situation with respect to Covid-19, we shall conduct the face-to-face meeting with a limited audience mainly the Board of Trustees and a few members. This is in line with health advisories on social distancing and avoiding large gatherings in order to curb exposure and spread of Covid-19.

Your participation and inputs at the AGM remain valuable so we are also arranging a concurrent virtual conference call instead.

The Secretariat will be sending out email invitations, especially to those who indicated that they are coming to TFC. These invitations will be sent out by email tomorrow. Instructions will be given also by email.

We acknowledge commitment and support of the members who wish to participate in the AGM. At the same time, we do recognise that most of the retirees, especially our elderly and very senior members of the Club, are vulnerable to the risk of Covid-19 infection. Your health and safety are most important, hence this alternative meeting procedure makes sense. For the benefit of those who are unable to join via virtual call, we will circulate subsequently thru email a condensed copy of the President’s Report 2019.

Look forward to hearing you at the AGM on Mar 17. Keep safe and stay healthy.

President, SC15+
